Your organisation will need to define its approach to the technology needed for e-assessment and ensure that it has the capacity to deliver.
The approach and systems used should initially be agreed with your awarding body. E-assessment operations that need to be considered are management, delivery, administration and technical support.
Increased demand for e-assessment will raise certain infrastructure requirements. Your e-assessment strategy should ensure there is provision for and investment in a dedicated IT resource. Within this you should think about:
 | Hardware and software requirements | | Systems maintenance | | Technical support to teaching staff (helpdesk scenario, test developments, assessment materials developments) | | Supporting staff skills development | | Security of systems | | Maintaining pace with developing technologies | | Meeting quality standards BS 7988* and BS 7799** | | Data storage, test banks | | Managing on-demand testing, real time internet testing and assessment | | Communications with other systems, awarding body systems, MIS systems, VLEs, MLEs | | Managing remote access from other locations | | Ongoing system evaluation and capacity reviews | | Ensuring technology is not creating any barriers to assessment, and as a centre you are addressing the digital divide issue (the possible division between those able to access learning and formative assessment at home or at work and those who cannot) |

** BS7799 Code of practice for information security management.
