What is an e-portfolio?
An e-portfolio is an electronic storage resource in which learners keep various types of learning material, work-in-progress and records. The e-portfolio is described as a 'personal learning space' which holds a complete record of all achievements and supports the ethos of lifelong learning in the twenty-first century.
A personal learning space e-portfolio contains four sections. Each may be dependant or interdependent throughout lifelong learning, but together they show a complete profile of the learner, including life achievements. Download the e-portfolio animation.

The JISC Glossary defines an e-portfolio as:
"An electronically-based portfolio file store and information management system which is modelled on the working method used for paper portfolios, but which takes advantage of the capabilities of ICT, notably allowing learners to store digital artefacts and streamlining the process of review and moderation for learners, tutors, moderators and verifiers."
"Note: within e-assessment, e-portfolios are generally related to a particular course over a particular period of time, and designed for assessment purposes. However, in other settings portfolios may also or alternatively be a 'complete learning life record' where students have access to their records, digital repository, feedback and reflection, aiding students to achieve a greater understanding of their individual growth, career planning and CV building."
e-Assessment: Guide to effective practice.
The four UK Qualifications regulators are pleased to announce the publication of e-Assessment: Guide to effective practice.
The guide has been produced to support the development of e-assessment opportunities for learners within UK qualifications frameworks, to stimulate the use of e-assessment through providing centres, and to support quality improvement in these centres.
The guide covers the use of both e-testing and the use of e-portfolios for assessment. The regulators have developed the guide in consultation with awarding bodies and centres in different parts of the UK, and in particular through 12 pilot centres that have used and evaluated the guide in their e-assessment work.
