The future of training and education will be heavily influenced by current and emerging technologies which will impact on how and where learning and qualifications are delivered. In Northern Ireland this future is reflected in the Department for Employment and Learning's (DEL) strategy for e-learning. It states that technology's role in education will grow substantially over the next 10 years.
As technology increasingly becomes part of everyday life it is important that education and training providers embrace its potential in the delivery of their learning programmes and qualifications.
QCA case studies have demonstrated that there is a growing volume of activity with the use of e-testing, e-portfolios, and virtual learning environments (VLEs). Whilst QCA acknowledges the innovative work taking place across various centres in Northern Ireland, it recognises that most of this activity is mainly due to individual innovation rather than strategic direction. QCA research with awarding bodies and centres in Northern Ireland reinforces the need to develop a more strategic vision on e-assessment.
This section is designed to provide you with guidance to help you consider the key areas that you need to take into account when developing an e-assessment strategy.
